How to Hide Page and Blog Post Titles in WordPress – 5 Options

Why hide the title of a page? If your page title is in a strange place or doesn’t fit well with your design you want to hide it… for example having a Home title on your homepage is unnecessary and can even look a little unprofessional…

There’s no built-in button to hide page titles in WordPress, but you still have plenty of options to get it done.

You should always avoid simply blanking the title in the backend, as that causes issues for your SEO and permalinks, clutters your backend, and can mess up functions that call on post/page titles like the menu or Recent Posts widget.

How to Hide Page and Blog Post Titles

How to Hide Page and Blog Post Titles is quite easy. We are going to have a look at five (5) options:

1. Do Not Enter a Title (Not Recommended)

2. Use a Theme such as Astra (Recommended!)

Use a Theme that allows you to ‘disable’ the title of a page or blog post.

3. Use a Page Builder such as ‘Elementor’ (Recommended!)

4. Install a Title Remover Plugin such as ‘Remove Title Plugin’, ‘Title Remover’, ‘Hide Page and Post Title’ (Not Recommended)

Hide Title plugins are not recommended – these plugins haven’t been updated in months and are untested with the latest version of WordPress.

Please note that installing a plugin is not possible on the free version of WordPress.com – you need a self-hosting WordPress website (i.e. you need a hosting company to host your website for you).

5. Target the Blog Post ID with CSS (Recommended!)

If you don’t have a Theme that allows you to disable the Title of each Page and Post and if you don’t have a Page Builder with this feature then targeting the Blog Post ID with CSS is the preferred method – it sounds complicated but it is super easy!

Not possible on the free version of WordPress.com – you need a self-hosting WordPress website to activate CSS customization (i.e. you need a hosting company to host your website for you).

Do you have a self-hosting WordPress website? Then all you have to do is to copy the code below (pleaser also refer to video below).

*Please note: replace the 0 with the relevant id. For example if the page id is 106748 then the code to hide the title of that page will be:

Please note:

You should always backup your site before adding any custom code or installing a plugin.

Posts and pages without a title display in your backend as “(no title)”. When you have dozens or hundreds of them on your site, finding the one you’re looking for in all that clutter can quickly become a logistics nightmare.

It is not recommended that you remove the title from your posts or pages as it can cause issues with your permalinks, SEO, and even your site’s layout.

Please be aware that either an H1 heading or an HTML title element is necessary to avoid being penalized by search engines. If you decide to hide the title, you should consider installing a SEO plugin and making sure the “SEO title” or ”HTML title” element is set on every page.
