How to Create a WordPress Website – Lesson 9 – Optimize Images with Alt Text to Improve your Site’s SEO and Rank Higher in Google

The alt attribute (the ‘Alt Text’ or ‘Alternative Text’) provides alternative information for an image if a user for some reason cannot see the image (due for example to a slow connection, an error in the src attribute or if the user uses a screen reader).

You can very easily add the Alternative Text to your images. The Alt Text is used by Googlebot to read your images. Alt Text improves your website’s SEO.

A page with images (or videos) will be ranked higher by Google and other search engines.
People will engage longer on a page with images and/ or videos. Remember the old saying: “A good picture is worth a thousand words”?
The higher the number of visitors you have and the longer visitors stay on your pages and blog posts the higher your site will be ranked by Google.
As a recap, make sure that the keyword or keyphrase is in the:
  1. File name
  2. Title of your Page or Blog Post
  3. Alt text of the Image(s) in your Page or Blog Post.
